A channel in the FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) framework is a virtual broadcast stream that delivers a continuous flow of content to viewers. Channels are designed to replicate the experience of traditional TV channels but are delivered over the internet.
Each channel serves as a container for scheduled content, which can include live broadcasts, ondemand videos, or a mix of both. Channels are essential for organizing and delivering content in a structured manner, ensuring that viewers receive a consistent and engaging viewing experience.
To start creating a channel, click the "Create" button on the FAST panel. This process is designed to ensure seamless content delivery and viewer satisfaction. Each channel must contain only one video template to maintain consistent encoding and packaging across all content, which is essential for flawless streaming.
- Name the Channel: The user should start by providing a clear and descriptive name for the channel. A well-chosen name enhances the organization and accessibility of channels within the panel, making it easier to manage multiple channels efficiently.
- Assign a Video Template: Users can then select the video template for the channel. This template ensures uniform encoding and packaging, providing a consistent viewing experience. By maintaining a single template across the channel, the risk of playback issues is minimized, and content management is streamlined.
- Set the Video Profile: Users should choose the appropriate video profile tailored to the content and target audience. This step is critical in optimizing the viewer experience, ensuring that content is delivered at the highest quality that matches the audience's expectations.
- Offline Placeholder Content: The user can select the content that will be played when the channel is active but there is no active schedule. This offline placeholder ensures that the channel remains engaging even during scheduling gaps, providing continuous streaming and retaining viewer interest.
- CDN Distribution (Optional): If specific CDN distribution is required, the user can select it here. However, if not specified, the channel will automatically use the CDN distribution assigned to the content within the VMS. This flexibility ensures that content is delivered smoothly, leveraging existing CDN settings to minimize setup time and complexity.
- DVR Length: The user should set the DVR length to 20 minutes for optimal SSAI integration. This feature allows viewers to rewind and replay recent content, enhancing the viewing experience and increasing engagement. A well-configured DVR length also supports effective ad insertion, maximizing monetization opportunities.
- Channel Status: Users can determine the initial status of the channel. Setting it as active during creation allows for immediate deployment, but the status can also be updated or deactivated as needed. This flexibility ensures that channels are always aligned with the content strategy, providing full control over the broadcasting schedule.
- Finalize Creation: After all settings are configured, the user should click "Create" to complete the channel creation process. This streamlined workflow enables quick and efficient channel launches, reducing time to market and ensuring that content reaches viewers without delay.
