What is a CDN

CDN is a high-level content delivery network to accelerate the distribution of your static and dynamic web content, such as CSS, JS, images, and fonts, HTML, JSON, and text files.

One of the main purposes of using CDN in front of a website is to reduce the number of requests the origin server has to respond directly.  Moreover, CDNs help to avoid over exhausting the origin server or the website that it powers by balancing the traffic (bandwidth) received to these resources.

With caching in MerlinCDN, more content is served from MerlinCDN Edges without a request to the origin servers. Caching mechanism reduces the load and bandwidth on the origin servers dramatically, helps to handle high peaks without exhausting the origin servers, and reduces latency.
